Trump Claims Iran Attack ‘Obliterated’ Nuclear Sites, Satellite Images Tell A Different Story

On Sunday, the U.S. military bombed Iran’s Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan nuclear facilities.

Pentagon officials stated that the attack involved B-2 bombers, 30,000-pound bunker-buster bombs and submarine-fired Tomahawk cruise missiles. The attack hit all three sites in less than 30 minutes.

Following the attacks, President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social, claiming that significant damage to the facilities had been dealt, “Obliteration is an accurate term…The biggest damage took place far below ground level. Bullseye!!!”

Satellite images show evidence of significant damage to the facilities, but they don’t support the president’s claims. The photos show craters and collapsed tunnels but don’t contain evidence of the underground facility being destroyed or even heavily damaged.

The Defense Department stated that the attack on Fordo caused severe damage to the facility.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has reported that there are currently no signs of nuclear radiation being released from the facilities.

Previously, Trump had said he would wait for two weeks for Iran to decide whether to continue to negotiate. The strikes came only a few days after this statement.

Many of America’s allies and other world powers have expressed concern over Trump’s actions in Iran, urging the U.S. and Iran to reach a peaceful settlement.

Oil prices have already begun to rise, with some traders expressing concern about how Iran plans to respond to the strikes. U.S. oil fell 4% following the attacks.
