Trump Calls To “Stop The Radical Left” At North Carolina Rally For GOP House Candidate Dan Bishop

President Donald Trump urged his supporters to “stop the radical left” at a rally held in North Carolina on Monday to bolster a 2020 Republican House candidate and to improve his own image in the state as part of his re-election campaign.

Trump voiced his backing of Dan Bishopthe GOP nominee in the special do-over election in North Carolina’s 9th Congressional District, at the “Keep America Great” rally in Fayetteville. Bishop is running against Democrat Dan McCready, who lost to Republican Mark Harris by just 905 votes during last year’s midterm elections in a House race that drew significant attention following allegations of voter fraud on the part of Harris’s campaign. The state’s board of elections voted to hold a new election, although Harris decided to run in the do-over due to health concerns. Bishop, a North Carolina state senator, then filled in as the GOP candidate. The race between McCready and Bishop is viewed as one that could be highly indicative of the results of the 2020 elections.

Bishop is famous in North Carolina for having sponsored H.B. 2, the controversial “bathroom bill” that pro-LGBT advocates have said discriminates against transgender individuals.

SLIDESHOW: 2020 DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES

Trump warned the crowd of thousands on Monday to fear McCready and listed the Democratic House candidate’s position on many issues.

“You have a Democrat named Dan McCready, and he wants open borders,” Trump told his supporters. “He wants sanctuary cities. He’s not going to protect your Second Amendment.”

The president also vowed Republicans would move toward “firing” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California) and toward taking back Congress’s lower chamber in 2020.

At Monday’s rally, Trump also boasted of his accomplishments since taking office and said he would strive to win North Carolina again in the 2020 presidential election. In 2016, he beat Hillary Clinton by less than 4 percent to secure the state’s 15 electoral votes.

“We had a very, very special day in 2016,” Trump said. “It was very special, very special. … 2020 is essentially just as important, because they’ll try to take it away.”
