Trump Calls Out Enemies Liz Cheney & Mitch McConnell In CPAC Speech

In his first public speech since leaving office, former President Donald Trump denounced the Republican Senators and House members who voted to impeach him in February. At the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Orlando, Florida, Trump named the 17 GOP lawmakers who voted to impeach and convict him and demanded the party “get rid” of them, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Among the 17 names was GOP Conference Chair Liz Cheney (R-Wyoming), who Trump spoke of at length. Trump called Cheney a “warmonger” and told the crowd it was “good news” she had been censured by her state GOP. “So hopefully they’ll get rid of her with the next election,” said Trump. “Get rid of ‘em all,” he said as the crowd applauded.

Cheney did not attend CPAC. On Thursday, Cheney broke away from House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-California) when she said in direct contradiction of him, that Trump should not speak at the conference.

Trump’s appearance headlining CPAC solidifies his comfortable hold over the Republican party and power to silence dissidents. Republicans who have come out against Trump have been censured by their state parties and even in the case of Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Illinois), disowned by their families.
