President Donald Trump responded to former President Barack Obama’s criticism of his handling of the coronavirus pandemic by calling him “grossly incompetent.”
A day earlier, Obama said leaders weren’t “even pretending to be in charge.” When asked by reporters of his comments, Trump answered that White House officials “had a great weekend” on a working trip to Camp David.
“We did a lot of terrific meetings, tremendous progress is being made on many fronts, including coming up with a cure for this horrible plague that has beset our country,” Trump said.
Trump then added, “Look, he was an incompetent president. That’s all I can say. Grossly incompetent.”

Obama has avoided commenting on politics since he left office. However, that’s all changed recently with the coronavirus outbreak.
With 1.5 million cases of the coronavirus, more than 89,000 deaths in the U.S. and the unemployment rate rising passed 14.7 percent, Trump has faced mounds of criticism for the delayed response by the executive branch.
Last week, Obama reportedly said in a call of about 3,000 former staffers that the government was taking a “what’s in it for me?” approach in dealing with the pandemic, adding that the White House’s response has been “an absolute chaotic disaster.”
Obama also said on Saturday in a virtual address to graduates of historically black colleges and universities, “This pandemic has fully, finally torn back the curtain on the idea that so many of the folks in charge know what they’re doing.”
