Donald Trump called on Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) and Senate Republicans demanding they abandon bipartisan talks on an infrastructure bill until after the midterm elections, in the hope that Republicans gain majorities in both houses of Congress.
During his time as president, Trump never proposed an infrastructure bill despite claiming repeatedly that he would. Passing a bill would be an important achievement for the Biden Administration which is currently working with over 20 senators from both parties on compromise legislation. The bipartisan group includes Republicans such as Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) and Sen. Susan Collins (R-Ohio).
On Saturday, Trump called McConnell an “old crow” at a rally in Arizona and claiming “he was way down, and I endorsed him and he went up 20 points.” McConnell was once a strong supporter of Trump but blamed him for feeding “lies” to rioters on January 6.
This news comes at a time when the strategic consulting firm Fabrizio, Lee & Associates, released a report showing that Donald Trump Jr.. is polling better than McConnell. Trump Jr. is currently polling 25 points better than McConnell and twice as high as House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R).
