Former President Donald Trump named Sen. Rick Scott (R-Florida) as his choice to oust GOP Senate Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) should he win back the White House in 2024.
“People are very upset with Mitch McConnell — I’ll tell you who is upset with him — the public,” Trump told Fox News. “I think we’ll probably have to live with him for two years. And if I run and if I win, I will say, don’t send me any legislation if he’s the leader, and he’ll be out in two minutes.”
“I think Rick Scott is a likely candidate — he hates the guy,” Trump added. “He’s tough — he’s tough, and I think he would probably go for it,” Trump said. “He’d have a lot of support.”
Trump continued on to say that he believes McConnell has done a poor job. Trump endorsed McConnell when he was last up for reelection, but has since said that he only did that because McConnell “begged” him.

Trump and McConnell have publicly criticized each other since McConnell refused to support Trump’s claims of a “stolen” election in 2020. McConnell also said that Trump was “practically and morally responsible” for inciting the violent attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.
On Sunday, Scott appeared on NBC News and refused to deny that he would challenge McConnell who has served as the Republican leader since 2007. Instead, he evaded the question by saying that his focus remained on Tuesday’s midterms and that he was not looking past that.
This comes after Scott said in February that he would “absolutely” cast his vote for McConnell to stay in leadership. Since then, the two have had major disagreements prompting Scott to present his own 11-point plan, which McConnell dismissed.
