NBC sitcom star Debra Messing demanded President Donald Trump publicize the full-list of attendees from a recent Hollywood Trump fundraiser. The Will & Grace star tweeted, “the public has the right to know.”
Trump then used his Twitter account to target Messing. He accused her of attempting to create a blacklist of Trump supporters. Worse, he called her a McCarthyite and a racist.
The feud initially broke out on Twitter after Messing liked and shared a pair of anti-Trump voter signs from an Alabama Baptist church. The posters read: “A black vote for Trump is mental illness.” And the other, “A white vote for Trump is pure racism.” Messing apologized, and she deleted the tweet.
The hashtag #RacistDebraMessing started trending on Twitter soon after. On Wednesday, Messing publicly stated she regretted liking and sharing the signs.

Whoopi Goldberg jumped to Trump’s defense on a segment of The View, stating: “Last time people did this, people ended up killing themselves. This is not a good idea.” Goldberg continued, “You don’t have the right. In this country, people can vote for who they want to. That is one of the great rights of this country.”
Trump compared the situation to last year when ABC fired star Roseanne Barr for a racist tweet. Trump tweeted, “If Roseanne Barr said what she did, even being on a much higher rated show, she would have been thrown off television,” Trump stated.” Will Fake News NBC allow a McCarthy style Racist to continue? ABC fired Roseanne. Watch the double standard!”
