Sidney Powell, who is among the several attorneys that defended former President Donald Trump‘s false assertions about the 2020 presidential election being riddled with fraud, was called for a sanctions hearing by the Federal court at Michigan.
U.S. District Judge Linda Parker told the attorneys to attend a hearing on July 6, the court documents released on Thursday showed.
Powell previously had brought a lawsuit that challenged the 2020 presidential election results in Michigan.
The suit claimed that President Joe Biden‘s victory in the state was caused by fraud. Powell asserted that the state’s electors should be disqualified.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel (D) asked the court to sanction Powell for pursuing a case that is based on lies.
Nessel said in April that even Powell herself has admitted that her statements were false.
“As lawyers, fidelity to the law is paramount,” Nessel said in her statement following her announcement of the motion against Powell in April. “These individuals worked to further conspiracy theories in an effort to erode public trust in government and dismantle our systems of democracy. Their actions are inexcusable.”
