Trump Attacks MSNBC Host Lawrence O’Donnell After Retracting Deutsche Bank-Russian Co-Signers Story
President Donald Trump bashed MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell, after he reported a story claiming that Trump’s loans from Deutsche Bank were co-signed by Russian oligarchs.
Trump responded by posting a tweet saying, “Crazy Lawrence O’Donnell, who has been calling me wrong from even before I announced my run for the Presidency, even being previously forced by NBC to apologize, which he did while crying, for things he said about me & The Apprentice, was again forced to apologize.”
Then continuing in a second post saying that news outlets should apologize to the him for “lying.” “For the most ridiculous claim of all, that Russia, Russia, Russia, or Russian oligarchs, co-signed loan documents for me, a guarantee. Totally false, as is virtually everything else he, and much of the rest of the LameStream Media, has said about me for years. ALL APOLOGIZE!”
On Wednesday, one of the President’s attorneys, Charles Hader, sent a letter to NBC saying that the story O’Donnell presented was not true and defamed the president.
In response, O’Donnell retracted the story Wednesday night. He did not say that the story was inaccurate, but said that it came from a single source and was not checked by MSNBC’s “rigorous verification and standards process.”
“We don’t know whether the information is inaccurate, but the fact is, we do know it wasn’t ready for broadcast. For that, I apologize,” O’Donnell said.
MSNBC later said that the source had not seen any bank records.
O’Donnell’s report came after Deutsche Bank had Trump’s tax return information, relating to subpoenas issued by House Democrats.
