Former President Donald Trump criticized Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) during a Saturday rally in Atlanta.

Trump used the rally at the Georgia State University Convocation Center, as well as Truth Social, to attack the popular Republican governor. During the rally, Trump told attendees that Kemp is a bad person.

“He’s a bad guy, he’s a disloyal guy and he’s a very average governor,” Trump said.

The former president also posted on Truth Social ahead of the event to attack Kemp, writing that Kemp “should focus his efforts on fighting Crime, not fighting Unity and the Republican Party!”

“His Crime Rate in Georgia is terrible, his Crime Rate in Atlanta is the worst, and his Economy is average. He should be seeking UNITY, not Retribution, especially against the man that got him the Nomination through Endorsement and, without whom, he could never have beaten Stacey Abrams,” Trump continued.

Trump has maintained ongoing criticism of Kemp, which has caused division as the state is a battleground state during this election.

Kemp responded to the criticism on Twitter, urging Trump to focus on the election.

“My focus is on winning this November and saving our country from Kamala Harris and the Democrats – not engaging in petty personal insults, attacking fellow Republicans, or dwelling on the past. You should do the same, Mr. President, and leave my family out of it.”

There was speculation that Trump was upset that Kemp did not attend the rally, while others speculated that Kemp was not invited.

Many Georgia Republicans have also criticized Trump due to his behavior following the 2020 election, which was an issue for the GOP during the Senate runoffs in 2021.

During the rally, which took place just days after Vice President Kamala Harris held a rally in Atlanta, Trump told supporters that he was “thrilled to be back in the great state of Georgia. I love Georgia.”
