Trump Advisor Roger Stone Sentenced To More Than 3 Years In Prison For Obstructing Investigation

U.S. District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson sentenced political operative Roger Stone to more than three years in prison for obstructing a Congressional investigation into Trump’s connections to Russia.

The sentencing follows the resignation of four federal prosecutors after Attorney General William Barr overturned their decision to request sentencing Stone to seven-to-nine years.

Over 2000 former Justice Department officials, from both parties, have signed a letter that accuses Barr of politicizing the department and disregarded his Constitutional duties as the chief-law-enforcer overseeing the case.

The letter also alleges that Barr has offered President Donald Trump preferential treatment, and fallen victim to Trump’s social media bullying.

Trump had tweeted that the entire case was “Disgraceful!” and a “Horrible and unfair situation.” He also attacked the federal prosecutors involved in the case, calling them “rogue prosecutors.”

Judge Jackson went out of her way to castigate the president. “[Stone] was not prosecuted for standing up for the president,” she said. “He was prosecuted for covering up for the president.”
