President Donald Trump’s administration has ended a program that allowed seriously ill immigrants to remain in the United States while undergoing treatment. Activists are calling the move “a death sentence” for children receiving treatment for life-threatening illnesses.
The program makes it legal for immigrants to stay in the country for two years if they can prove “extreme medical need.”
Immigrants receiving medical care in Massachusetts learned of change after the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services sent them a letter telling them to leave the country or they would be deported in 33 days.
Critics see the work of White House immigration hard liner Stephen Miller.
