A third photo of Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau in blackface make-up has emerged, tarnishing the progressive politician’s reputation.
Canada’s Global News published a photo of Trudeau sticking his tongue out while his face and extremities were covered in dark makeup.
The photo is the third image to circulate just as Trudeau is stepping up his re-election campaign. What was once considered poor taste in a costume, has demonstrated a potentially troubling habit of appropriating other cultures.
“I have worked all my life to create opportunities for people to fight against racism, I can stand here and say I made a mistake,” said Trudeau. “I should have known better then, but I didn’t and I’m sorry. I’m going to be asking Canadians to forgive me. I’m disappointed and pissed off at myself.”

The first photo that surfaced showed Trudeau in 2001 wearing brownface and a turban as part of an Aladdin costume. A second photo was published hours after that showed him wearing blackface and singing the Jamaican folk song “Day-O.”
He claimed he did not know blackface was racist at the time.
“Obviously I regret that I did it, I’m really sorry I did it,” Trudeau told reporters. “I take responsibility for my decision to do that. I should have known better. I didn’t know it was racist at the time.”
Trudeau has shifted his campaign to focus on gun control, hoping to steer the conversation away from his blackface controversy.
