The Trump Organization Ranked Least Reputable Company In America

The Trump Organization has the worst reputation of any company in the country, according to the recent 2023 Axios Harris Poll 100 reputation rankings.

In March, 16,310 Americans were asked by Axios and Harris Poll to rate the 100 companies they consider to be the “most visible” on nine dimensions of reputation: character, trajectory, trust, culture, ethics, citizenship, vision, growth and “products & services.” Here are the seven companies that scored the lowest, in descending order from the worst ranked:

  1. The Trump Organization
  2. FTX
  3. Fox Corporation
  4. Twitter
  5. Meta
  6. Spirit Airlines
  7. TikTok

The Trump Organization is the only company on the list ranked “very poor” overall, the lowest possible classification. The company was convicted of 17 criminal charges — including tax fraud on December 24, 2022. The company’s reputation is also directly tied to the reputation of its namesake, former President Donald Trump, who was charged with 34 felony counts of falsifying business records before the 2016 presidential election a few days after the ranking was released.

FTX entered the list of the country’s 100 most visible companies for the first time, a less-than-celebratory feat given its position as the second-worst disreputable company. The cryptocurrency exchange lost billions and filed for bankruptcy in November 2022, and reports shortly followed that ex-FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried and his trading firm borrowed and traded billions of dollars from FTX users’ accounts. Bankman-Fried has since been named in a class-action lawsuit alleging that FTX’s customers have lost about $11 billion.

Fox Corporation made the third spot while it was being sued by Dominion Voting Systems for falsely claiming that voting machines rigged the 2020 presidential election. In April, Fox Corporation settled outside of court with Dominion Voting Systems for $787.5 million.

Meta and Twitter made the list after controversially laying off thousands of workers — often over email. Twitter itself has faced a series of scandals since Elon Musk’s takeover on October 27, 2022, from the flawed Twitter Blue verification system to the banning of journalists from the platform. Twitter is now estimated to be worth one-third of the $44 billion Musk paid.

Joining the social media giant ranks of Meta and Twitter also means that TikTok has a similarly disreputable public perception, especially given growing congressional concerns about privacy risks and exploitable data on the platform. Montana became the first state to ban TikTok last month.

Spirit Airlines scored the lowest for products and services, indicative of its long-standing reputation for delayed flights and poor customer service.

2023’s rankings are consistent with last year’s. The Trump Organization, TikTok and Spirit Airlines kept the same positions. Meta and Twitter became more reputable, while Fox Corporation dropped to the third-worst position.
