Texas Announces Audit Of 4 Largest Counties In 2020 Election

The Texas Secretary of state’s department announced Thursday it would conduct an election audit in the state’s four largest counties.

“Under existing Texas laws, the Secretary of State has the authority to conduct a full and comprehensive forensic audit of any election and has already begun the process in Texas’ two largest Democrat counties and two largest Republican counties — Dallas, Harris, Tarrant, and Collin — for the 2020 election,” the statement reads.

The announcement came just hours after former President Donald Trump demanded Gov. Greg Abbott (R-Texas) to prioritize a statewide audit of the 2020 presidential election, despite his win in the state in November last year.

“Despite my big win in Texas, I hear Texans want an election audit! You know your fellow Texans have big questions about the November 2020 Election,” Trump said in a statement. “Let’s get to the bottom of the 2020 Presidential Election Scam!”

Following the announcement, the state House Democratic Caucus Chairman Chris Turner sarcastically claimed that Trump is “becoming the new governor of Texas,” while criticizing Abbott.

“Let me be the first to congratulate the disgraced former president, Donald Trump, on his apparently becoming the new governor of Texas. Pitiful yet predictable that [Abbott] has capitulated to Trump yet again.

According to internal memos, the Trump campaign allegedly made election fraud claims despite knowing that they were untrue.

Ever since Trump lost the presidential election to Democrats, several red states have initiated ballot reviews using unorthodox methods. A review in Arizona showed that Biden had increased his lead over Trump.

Earlier this month, Abbott also signed an election bill that adds more voting restrictions on the state’s citizens, three months after the Democrats spent months trying to block the bill from becoming law.
