Suspect In Shooting Of Minnesota Lawmakers Wore Creepy Silicone Mask

Vance Boelter, the main suspect in the shooting of Rep. Melissa Hortman (D-Minnesota) and her husband, was wearing a mask made of rubber or silicone during the shooting.

In footage released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Boelter was seen wearing an outfit similar to that of a police officer, as well as a rubber or silicone mask with a pale complexion.

Boelter was detained by officials on Sunday, ending a two-day search for the shooter. An hour’s drive away from the shooting site, officials found a car that was registered under Boelter’s name, as well as a hat and weapons.

During the investigation conducted by the FBI, new information was discovered about Boelter. He is 57 years old, a father of five and had previously worked in the food industry for several decades. Boelter had quit the food industry to work in central Africa and had recently started a job at a funeral services company.

Boelter had previously worked on Minnesota’s economic board, where state Sen. John Hoffman (D) had served. Hoffman was shot by Boelter but survived the attack. The FBI does not have information regarding the relationship between the two, except that they had previously served on the same board.

Boelter had initially been appointed to the board by Mark Dayton, a former Democratic governor, in 2016. He was reappointed later by Gov. Tim Walz (D).

Boelter’s shootings are believed to be politically motivated. David Carlson, Boelter’s roommate and close friend, has stated that Boelter voted for President Donald Trump during the 2024 election and was strictly against abortion.

Boelter sent Carlson messages on Saturday morning: “I don’t want to say anything more and implicate you in any way because you guys don’t know anything about this. But I love you guys, and I’m sorry for all the trouble this has caused.”

Boelter sent Carlson four months’ worth of rent payments before the shooting.
