Space Perspective Building A ‘Space Balloon’ Program For Tourists, Set To Take Off In 2024

Space Perspective, the new space travel company, is building so-called “space balloons” to carry eight people at a time to a 19-mile-high for $125,000. The program will let the passenger experience the outer space views.

Tickets went on sale starting on June 23. So far, the first three trips that were scheduled for takeoff in 2024 are all sold out.

The company’s co-founders, Jane Poynter and Taber MacCallum, have been the advisers for the giant space projects from the companies like Space X, for which they worked closely with its founder Elon Musk and Google. The pair have come up with the idea of space ballons, largely in order to improve the quality of travel for normal people.

“[Traveling via space balloon] is completely the opposite of rocket flight,” Poynter said. “You would feel multiple Gs of pressure in a typical rocket flight takeoff; astronauts say it’s like an elephant sitting on your chest. It’s loud and terrifying, and perhaps even medically prohibitive.”
