Six Candidates On The Ballot To Replace Trump Loyalist Rep. Devin Nunes

Six candidates have cast their names to replace former President Donald Trump loyalist Rep. Devin Nunes in the Central Valley district in the state of California.

Nunes had held the seat since 2002 but resigned from Congress in January to become the CEO of Trump Media group. Trump has been enraged about the poor performance of the platform and numerous executives have quit in recent days.

The state redistricting commission had committed to dividing California’s 22nd district to allow the Latinx population to have more sway.

Since Nunes resigned, the candidate who takes over his seat will only serve for a couple of months since the district will no longer exist after the lines are redrawn. This makes it interesting for the voters and candidates, as they need to decide if they value running for this seat alone or using this seat to lead to a future seat in the House. Four Republicans and two Democrats will be on the ballot in the so-called “jungle primary,” making it a possible Republican against the Republican race.

If none of the candidates earn a majority of votes, the top two candidates will be pitted against each other in a June 7 runoff. Votes have been few, even though mail-in voting began last month. Many voters are not even aware that Nunes vacated his position.

Nunes is now working to design and promote a social media platform after Trump was blocked from mainstream Twitter and Facebook after the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
