“On this night, we will not cross the river,” she said as she announced her defeat to her supporters.

Tuesday’s outcome also indicates the success of the establishment wing of the Democratic party against the progressive wing.

Turner was backed by progressives like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-New York), while Brown had the backing of Hillary Clinton and President Joe Biden.

Following the Tuesday outcome, Biden sent a congratulatory message to the primary winner.

“[Biden] is focused on delivering for the people of Ohio and across the country, as is she. We know his agenda, including investing in our country’s infrastructure, helping grow our economy, creating good-paying, middle-class jobs is broadly popular with the American people,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki said during the Wednesday briefing. “He is laser-focused on delivering. More Democrats means more ability to deliver on that.”

In response, Brown thanked the President: “He was very kind and very complimentary.”

Brown will now be favored to defeat Republican business owner Laverne Gore in the heavily Democratic district.
