Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer Denies Misleading Americans About Biden’s Decline

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer insisted that Democrats did not mislead the American people about President Joe Biden’s ability to serve a second term.

In a clip from February 2024 that has resurfaced online, Schumer declared rumors about Biden’s decline were “right-wing propaganda.” “I talk to President Biden, you know, regularly, sometimes several times in a week, or usually several times in a week. His mental acuity is great,” Schumer said in the interview.

Americans widely perceived Biden’s physical condition as in decline during the final two years of his presidency, according to multiple national polls.

In an interview with NBC’s Kristen Welker, Schumer declared that the Biden Administration passed some of the most significant pieces of legislation “since Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society.”

“And he’s a patriot, he’s a great guy,” Schumer added.

Many voters have wondered why Democratic lawmakers did not ask questions earlier when signs of the decline began.

Sens. Bob Casey (D-Pennsylvania), Debbie Stabenow (D-Michigan) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Connecticut) made statements that Biden appeared as sharp as ever during the beginning of his presidential campaign up until his presidential debate with President-elect Donald Trump. During the debate, Biden could be seen stumbling over his words and giving incoherent responses.

Republicans called Democrats out for not addressing the situation sooner.

MSNBC host Symone Sanders argued that Schumer should have defended the president more against Welker’s questions. “People can say that you feel as though President Biden might be a little too old to do the job, but he’s doing the job; his mental acuity is there. So I think there is a conflation of two things there,” Sanders said.

The White House is preparing two final public addresses for Biden over the remaining weeks of his term. The speeches will cap off his presidency and focus on foreign policy ahead of Trump’s second administration.
