Senate Democrats have vowed to fast-track the impeachment trial – and dismissal – of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. The majority of Democrats in the Senate currently support dismissing the charges against Mayorkas after the House passed articles of impeachment last month.
If the majority of the Senate votes to dismiss the impeachment, the motion will be passed. Republican impeachment managers have still not sent their articles over to the Senate, which would mark the beginning of the trial in the Senate.
The trial would take precedence over other proceedings.
Sen. Joe Minchin (D-West Virginia) described the upcoming impeachment trial as “ridiculous” and said it should be dismissed “immediately.”

Many Democrats in the Senate believe that their time should be used more wisely.
“I think it’s much more important to keep the government open,” said Sen Jon Tester (D-Montana). “Much more important to secure the southern border.”
Mayorkas’ impeachment articles were just barely passed by the House. The articles accuse Mayorkas of breaching public trust in his handling of the border and of refusing to comply with the law.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Massachusetts) weighed in on the trial, saying the impeachment is nothing but “political theater” and that the current Republican party “can’t do any real legislative work.”
Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Michigan) expressed her agreement, saying, “I certainly would support a motion to dismiss because it’s just very, very political. And we’ve got so many important things coming up.”
