Sen. Ted Cruz Blames Staffer For ‘Liking’ Pornographic Video From His Official Twitter Account

Texas Senator Ted Cruz‘s Twitter account was caught having “liked” a pornographic post from another account called @SexuallPosts.

SEN. TED CRUZ PBLAMES STAFFER FOR PORN “LIKE”

The attached clip was just over two minutes long, and featured porn actress Cory Chase, a male, and another female. It was “liked” by the page around midnight on Monday, and wasn’t caught and “un-liked” for nearly an hour – just long enough for the Internet to grab lots of screenshots.

Now, Cruz is calling the incident “a mistake,” and placing the blame on an unnamed staffer. “There are a number of people on the team who have access on the account. It appears that someone inadvertently hit the like button,” Cruz said, shirking the blame. “When we discovered the post, which was I guess an hour or two later, we pulled it down. It was a staffing issue. And it was inadvertent, it was a mistake. It was not a deliberate act. We’re dealing with it internally, but it was a mistake. It was not malicious.”

The clip, which is not new to the social media site, had been viewed more than 2 million times prior to Cruz’s inadvertent like. The Washington Post caught up with the man responsible for posting the clip to the @SexuallPosts account. “A friend texted me,” he said, giving only his first name, Kyle. “It’s pretty comical,” was all he had to say.

Cruz’s politics have crossed paths with the subject of porn on multiple occasions. In 2004, his legal team attempted to defend a law that banned the sale of sex toys, saying, “there is no substantive-due-process right to stimulate one’s genitals for nonmedical purposes unrelated to procreation or outside of an interpersonal relationship.” In 2016, he supposedly accidentally cast a former soft porn actress in a campaign ad attacking Sen. Marco Rubio.

Most people are simply mocking the Senator and making fun of the incident. Jimmy Kimmel, among others, latched onto the moment for comic opportunity. “Well done @TedCruz using the power of “like” to illustrate the evils of porn,” he tweeted with a screenshot of Cruz’s likes page.

Another user said, “Liking a porn tweet is by far the least offensive, most normal thing Ted Cruz has ever done.” And one more added, “Everyone on twitter after 1 a.m. on a Monday knows exactly how this whole thing works. You’re foolin’ nobody.”

The one party that may reap the benefits of Cruz’s faux pas is the liked twitter handle. Since word has spread of the embarrassing misstep, the @SexuallPosts Twitter account has updated its bio to say, “follow for the Same Porn @TedCruz Watches.”
