WASHINGTON, DC - FEBRUARY 01: U.S. Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) speaks during a news conference on Capitol Hill February 1, 2011 in Washington, DC. Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-CT) and Collins discussed the release of a report that says that less than one percent of the 4,000-mile U.S.-Canada border is monitored by U.S. border officials. (Image: Getty)
Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) has endorsed fellow Republican former Gov. Paul LePage (R) for another term as Maine governor.
LePage was been governor of Maine from 2011 to 2019. Maine’s election laws bar governors from serving more than two consecutive terms, so LePage took a hiatus from politics.
But he is now eligible to serve another two terms.
The businessman has called himself “Donald Trump before Donald Trump” and “Baby Donald.”

“As Maine recovers from the pandemic, Paul is the best candidate to grow our economy,” said Collins in a campaign video on Wednesday. “Paul is a job creator, that’s his background, he’s done it before and he will do it again.”
This endorsement may seem puzzling to some, especially seeing as Collins and LePage have a rocky history with one another.
When Collins declined to back former President Donald Trump back in 2016, LePage declared that she was “done with Maine.”
LePage also has a history of making sexist and politically incorrect statements, which seem to contradict Collins’ centrism.
