Sen. Sinema 58 Points Behind Rep. Gallego In Poll Of Arizona Democrats

Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-Arizona) has come under fire from members of her own party after blocking a one-time filibuster rule change to pass voting rights acts last week.

Now, polls are showing her far behind Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Arizona) if he were to challenge her when her term is up in 2024. A poll of 673 potential Democratic primary voters that was conducted between January 21 and January 24 show Sinema 58 points behind Gallego. While Gallego has not confirmed if he will run for Sinema’s Senate seat, he said last week that the senator was “ignoring the will of her voters.”

Another poll from OH Predictive Insights showed that Sinema has more Republican support in Arizona than support from Democrats.

“She’s looking more and more like a Democratic version of John McCain than a traditional Democrat,” Mike Noble, OH Predictive Insight’s chief pollster, said.

Seventy-four percent of voters voiced their support for Sen. Mark Kelly, the other Democratic senator from Arizona. Sinema and Kelly are the first two Democratic senators to represent Arizona in a generation.

Some pundits say that Sinema doesn’t seem like someone who wants to defend her seat in 2024.

Last week, Sinema’s spokeswoman Hannah Hurley, reiterated that Sinema has never promised her full support of either party and that she would continue to be an “independent voice” for Arizona.
