Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) criticized President Donald Trump’s response to the pandemic, saying that he doesn’t see how the coronavirus death rate in the U.S. will get any better.
On Wednesday, the United States recorded the highest coronavirus deaths since May.
“Short term, I think it’s fair to say we really had not distinguished ourselves in a positive way by how we responded to the crisis when it was upon us,” Romney said in an interview with the Sutherland Institute.
“We have 5% of the world’s population but 25% of the world’s deaths due to COVID-19, and there’s no way to spin that in a positive light,” he said.

Romney continued by criticizing the government’s response to the pandemic, saying it was “very, very disappointing.”
Trump has been trying to diminish the severity of the pandemic’s death toll and maintained that his administration has been doing a great job.
“They [COVID-19 patients] are dying. That’s true, and – it is what it is,” Trump said during the interview with the Axios. “But that doesn’t mean we aren’t doing everything we can. It’s under control as much as you can control it.”
