Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) is the first senator with a confirmed breakthrough COVID-19 infection. It is believed that 96 of 100 senators are vaccinated.
Despite being vaccinated, Graham is displaying flu-like symptoms. “I was just informed by the House physician I have tested positive for #COVID19 even after being vaccinated,” Graham tweeted. “I started having flu-like symptoms Saturday night and went to the doctor this morning.”
Still, Graham is advocating on behalf of vaccines and urging his followers to get their shots. He has been one of the few fervent supporters of the vaccine among Republican leadership since getting his own shot in December. The CDC says breakthrough cases like this are rare and have a low risk to the host. Still, some cities like L.A. and D.C., are seeing a return of certain mask mandates in light of the rise in cases.
