Sen. Chuck Schumer is going to push for a provision in the next coronavirus package to stop President Donald Trump from signing stimulus checks.
The provision, called the “No PR Act,” would prevent federal funding to be used on any materials with Trump or Vice President Mike Pence’s signature on it.
“President Trump unfortunately appears to see the pandemic as just another opportunity to promote his own political interests,” the New York senator said in a statement. “The No PR Act puts an end to the president’s exploitation of taxpayer money for promotional material that only benefits his re-election campaign.”
The proposal comes after the Treasury Department ordered Trump’s signature to appear on millions of stimulus checks. Critics say that his signature misleads Americans into thinking he is the only contributor to the checks.

“Delaying the release of stimulus checks so his signature could be added is a waste of time and money,” Schumer added.
The provision is part of a bigger Democratic effort to add oversight over the Trump Administration’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Senate is scheduled to return on May 4.
