Savannah Guthrie Admonishes Trump On Retweets Of Conspiracy Theories: ‘You’re Not Someone’s Crazy Uncle’

NBC moderator Savannah Guthrie admonished President Donald Trump for his habit of retweeting  conspiracy theories that sometimes get flagged by Twitter as containing misinformation, telling him Thursday that he’s not just “someone’s crazy uncle.”

Guthrie specifically brought up one retweet by the president in which the user claimed former Vice President Joe Biden and President Barack Obama created an elaborate cover-up in which the Navy SEAL Team Six faked the death of Osama bin Laden.

“That was a retweet,” Trump responded. “That was an opinion of somebody and that was a retweet. I’ll put it out there. People can decide for themselves. I don’t take a position.”

“You’re the president,” Guthrie shot back. “You’re not someone’s crazy uncle who can retweet whatever.”

The inflammatory tweet was shared from an account linked to the QAnon deep state conspiracy theory, which has since been suspended.

The account alleged that “Biden and Obama may have had Seal Team 6 killed” but the man killed in the raid was a bin Laden body double.

Retired U.S. Navy Seal Robert O’Neill criticized the president for retweeting the conspiracy, as there is no doubt amongst the intelligence community that bin Laden was indeed killed in the raid.

“Very brave men said (goodbye) to their kids to go kill Osama bin Laden. We were given the order by President Obama. It was not a body double,” tweeted O’Neill, who is credited with shooting bin Laden.

Asked by Guthrie to condemn QAnon, which among other beliefs insist prominent Democrats and A-list celebrities are running an international child sex trafficking ring, Trump maintained he knew little about the group’s ideology.

Trump said he didn’t know much except that they are “very much against pedophilia.”

Guthrie then explained some of their unfounded beliefs, to which Trump responded that he couldn’t trust her analysis.

“I just don’t know about QAnon,” Trump said again.

Guthrie replied, “You do know.” Trump hit back, “Haha, so cute.”
