Sarah Palin Advances To The General Election For Alaska House Seat

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) advanced on Tuesday night to the November general election for a chance to represent The Last Frontier state in the House.

Palin, who is endorsed by former President Donald Trump, is running for Alaska’s single seat which was previously held by Rep. Don Young (R) for 49 years until his death in March. Whoever wins the seat will serve the remainder of Young’s term.

Alaska ran a ranked-choice voting system that requires a candidate to receive at least 50 percent of the vote for the special election. If no one does, the candidate with the least amount of votes withdraws their candidacy and that person’s voter’s to their second choice until one candidate has over 50%.

Palin, who in 2008 was also a Vice Presidential candidate on the ticket with John McCain, will be joined by Republican tech entrepreneur Nick Begich, former Democrat state lawmaker Mary Sattler Peltola, and former Republican government official Tara Sweeney.
