Ruth Bader Ginsburg To Lie In Repose At Supreme Court Before Burial At Arlington National Cemetery

The late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will lie in repose within the Great Hall of the Supreme Court on Wednesday and Thursday.

Her casket will be placed temporarily within the Great Hall for a private ceremony Wednesday morning, followed by the opportunity for the public to pay respects on Wednesday and Thursday from outside of the building. This is not how respects have been paid to deceased Supreme Court members in the past – for example, when Justice Antonin Scalia died in 2016, the public was allowed to pay respects from within the building. Due to COVID-19 restrictions and the safety of the public being a concern, visitors other than friends, family and court members would need to remain outside of the building.

Ginsburg will have a private burial next week at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. Her husband, Martin D. Ginsburg, was buried there in 2010 after losing his battle to pancreatic cancer.
