Rudy Giuliani Says Donald Trump Could Shoot James Comey And Still Avoid Indictment

Rudy Giuliani added yet another provocative claim to add to his recent list of bold assertions.

Giuliani Says Trump Could Shoot Comey And Not Be Prosecuted

In an interview with The Huff PostGiuliani — a member of President Donald Trump‘s legal team — said the president could have shot former FBI Director James Comey and still avoided being indicted for it.

“In no case can he be subpoenaed or indicted,” former prosecutor Giuliani told the HuffPost. “I don’t know how you can indict while he’s in office. No matter what it is.”

Giuliani also added, however, that if Trump did shoot Comey or engaged in any type of otherwise illegal behavior, he would be impeached.

“If he shot James Comey, he’d be impeached the next day,” Giuliani stated. “Impeach him, and then you can do whatever you want to do to him.”

The HuffPost cited Norm Eisen — the White House ethics lawyer under former President Barack Obama — as saying of Giuliani’s claim: “A president could not be prosecuted for murder? Really?” he said. “It is one of many absurd positions that follow from their argument. It is self-evidently wrong.”

Trump and his attorneys have claimed the president has the right to shut down any investigations into him at any given moment in a 20-page letter to special counsel Robert Mueller‘s team. The president’s lawyers said that Trump could not have possibly obstructed justice, and that he would not respond to any subpoena Mueller issues.

Giuliani also said Trump “probably” has the right to pardon himself, although he added that the president shouldn’t do this. While speaking to Chuck Todd of NBC’s Meet The Presss, Giuliani said Trump pardoning himself was simply a “hypothetical” scenario.

The 20-page memo Trump’s legal team drafted also revealed that the president “dictated” a statement that his son Donald Trump Jr. issued about a meeting that occurred at Trump Tower in June 2016, in which Russian lawyers and other officials allegedly promised the president’s eldest son damaging information about Hillary Clinton just months before the election.

The Trump-written statement claimed the meeting was set up to discuss American families potentially adopting Russian children.

The White House is planning a possible summit between Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin in the coming months.
