Rudy Giuliani Joining Donald Trump’s Legal Team For Russia Probe

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is set to join President Donald Trump’s legal team that is defending the former Apprentice star in special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigations into Russian meddling in the 2016 election and possible collusion between Trump campaign officials and the Russian government, several news outlets reported Thursday.

Rudy Giuliani To Join Trump’s Legal Team

According to the New York Times, Jay Sekulow, one of Trump’s top lawyers in the Russia probe, said the president will also add Martin Raskin and Jane Raskin — two former federal prosecutors from Florida — to his defense team.

Giuliani, a longtime friend of Trump’s, is also a former federal prosecutor. A vocal critic of Hillary Clinton, Trump’s opponent in the 2016 election, Giuliani was rumored to be Trump’s pick for several top positions in the current administration — among them Attorney General — shortly after Trump won. However, Giuliani couldn’t be confirmed by the Senate for any cabinet role.

In a statement, Sekulow quoted Trump as saying: “Rudy is great. He has been my friend for a long time and wants to get this matter quickly resolved for the good of the country.”

This all comes as Trump’s personal attorney Michael Cohen is also under federal investigation for alleged illegal campaign finances and potential bank fraud. Cohen’s office and home were raided by the FBI last week in the hopes of finding documents relating to his many payments to women like porn star Stormy Daniels whom Trump had extramarital affairs with. That probe is being conducted in Manhattan, New York.

Giuliani is going through a divorce from his third wife, a story that some publications like The New York Post have been covering recently.
