RNC Warns Trump He’ll Lose Legal Funding If Declares 2024 Presidential Run

The Republican National Committee told former President Donald Trump that they will stop paying his legal fees should he announce another bid for the White House before the midterm elections.

“The party has to stay neutral,” RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel told ABC.

The RNC has paid around $2 million to law firms representing the former president, even after voting to cap spending at $1.6 million last December. The funds are aiding Trump in his legal battles including investigations into personal matters, such as New York Attorney Gen. Letitia James‘ probe into the Trump Organization’s finances.

According to the committee’s “neutrality policy,” they will be unable to treat Trump with more favor than other Republican candidates.

The warning also holds implications for Republicans’ chances in the midterm elections as many party leaders fear an early announcement could cost them seats.
