Right-Wing Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert Trails In Contentious Race

Far-right Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colorado) is narrowly trailing Democratic challenger Adam Frisch as votes are nearly done being tallied.

In Colorado’s third district that was recently redrawn to give Republicans a 9-point advantage, 95% of the votes are in. Frisch is currently holding the lead with 50.4% of the votes, with Boebert close behind with 49.6%. Frisch was likely able to sway the large bloc of unaffiliated voters in the district.

Boebert, who was not expected to face any real opposition, also benefited from name recognition and financing. Boebert had nearly $2 million fundraised in comparison to Frisch’s $500,000, according to a July filing.

The conservative representative has been one of the most vocal former President Donald Trump supporters during her time in the House and has been known to perpetuate his false claims of election fraud and other conspiracy theories. First elected in 2020, she has made controversial comments over the past two years such as declaring she would carry a gun inside the Capitol after the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Frisch, who has campaigned as a moderate Democrat, had a goal of appealing to those who belong to the “coalition of normal,” Colorado Democratic Chair Morgan Carroll said during an appearance on Colorado Public Radio. If elected, he will seek to join the House bi-partisan caucus.

If she loses, Boebert will join another far-right House member in Rep. Madison Cawthorn (North Carolina) with unusual distinction of having lost their reelection bid after just one term.

If Frisch pulls off an upset of Boebert, he will become the first Democrat to win the Colorado’s third district since 2008.
