Republicans To Recruit 50,000 Poll Watchers For November Election To Fight ‘Fraud’
The Republican National Committee is planning to recruit over 50,000 poll watchers to fight “election fraud,” despite little evidence of fraud across the country. The plan will cost $20 million and more for the lawsuit challenges expected from Democrats.
Many Democrats see the plan as a political strategy to reduce turnout by scaring minorities away from the ballot by inducing anxiety.
The Republicans – including the President Donald Trump – have been arguing that mail-in ballots, which Democrats including California Gov. Gavin Newsom have championed for their state, will “invite fraud, coercion, theft, and otherwise illegitimate voting.”
The GOP is starting its legal battle with California trying to block Newsom’s plan to send all residents mail-in ballots.
