Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Nebraska) has publicly attacked President Donald Trump‘s claim of election fraud by calling out Trump’s legal team for failing to provide substantial evidence to back their allegations.
Sasse is one of the few Republican leaders to criticize the president’s attempts to overturn the election outcome and President-elect Joe Biden‘s victory. Most have yet to publicly disagree with claims made by Trump himself or his attorney team led by Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell.
Sasse commented, “Wild press conferences erode public trust. So no, obviously Rudy and his buddies should not pressure electors to ignore their certification obligations under the statute. We are a nation of laws, not tweets.”
Similarly, Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) had also expressed his concerns over the validity of Trump’s election fraud statements. The senator asserted that Trump’s refusal to concede is “subvert(ing) the will of the people.”
