Rep. Mo Brooks Says Trump Repeatedly Asked Him To Help Overturn 2020 Election & Install Him As President

Alabama Rep. Mo Brooks (R) said Wednesday that former President Donald Trump asked him to go along with a plan to unlawfully remove President Joe Biden from office so Trump could regain the White House. Brooks says he repeatedly declined.

“Mo Brooks of Alabama made a horrible mistake recently when he went ‘woke’ and stated, referring to the 2020 Presidential Election Scam, ‘Put that behind you, put that behind you,'” Trump said in a statement announcing the his rescinding of his endorsement of Brooks for the U.S. Senate on Wednesday.

Trump blamed Brooks’ campaign staff for urging him to stop talking about the 2020 election.

Brooks released a statement in response detailing his side of a conversation with Trump regarding the 2020 election, that Trump falsely insists was “stolen.”

“President Trump asked me to rescind the 2020 elections, immediately remove Joe Biden from the White House, immediately put President Trump back in the White House, and hold a new special election for the presidency. As a lawyer, I’ve repeatedly advised President Trump that January 6 was the final election contest verdict and neither the U.S. Constitution nor the U.S. Code permits what President Trump asks. Period,” Brooks wrote in the statement.

He blamed Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and his allies for getting to Trump, without elaborating on why McConnell and Trump would be working together in spite of Trump’s public criticism of the senator.

“It’s disappointing that, just like in 2017, President Trump lets Mitch McConnell manipulate him again. Every single negative TV ad against our campaign has come from McConnell and his allies,” Brooks said in a statement. “I wish President Trump wouldn’t fall for McConnell’s ploys, but, once again, he has.”

Trump said he will name a different candidate to endorse before the May 24 primary to take over retiring Sen. Richard Shelby‘s (R-Alabama) seat.
