Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, Who Spread Vaccine Misinformation, Named To Covid Investigation Committee

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-California) named representatives to two new select subcommittees that will investigate the government’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The representatives assigned to the subcommittees on “Weaponization of the Federal Government” include far-right Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia), who is known for spreading Covid misinformation, and Rep. Brad Wenstrup (R-Ohio), who serves as co-chair on the Republican Doctors Caucus.

The subcommittees were a part of the GOP hardliners’ agenda before giving McCarthy their vote earlier this month. The subcommittees will look into government-enforced restrictions, where the virus originated from and the response of individual health officials such as Dr. Anthony Fauci.

The other Republicans that will be a part of the subcommittees include Reps. Nicole Malliotakis (New York), Mariannette Miller-Meeks (Iowa), Debbie Lesko (Arizona), Michael Cloud (Texas), John Joyce (Pennsylvania), Ronny Jackson (Texas) and Rich McCormick (Georgia).

Greene was booted from her committee assignments in a bipartisan decision after spreading conspiracy theories about Jews in 2021, but McCarthy promised to restore her committee seats if he won the speakership. He kept his promise and she was named to the House Homeland Security Committee and the influential Oversight Committee by the House steering panel last week.

The Georgia Republican was also removed from Twitter for spreading Covid misinformation but was allowed back on the social media platform after Elon Musk took over as CEO.
