Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene Predicts McCarthy Is ‘Going To Give Me A Lot Of Power’

Controversial far-right Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) said that House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-California) will be pressured to give her more power if he doesn’t want to anger conservative voters.

If the Republicans win back the majority of the House, McCarthy is a frontrunner to become House speaker.

“I think that to be the best speaker of the House and to please the base, he’s going to give me a lot of power and a lot of leeway,” Greene told The New York Times. “And if he doesn’t, they’re going to be very unhappy about it. I think that’s the best way to read that. And that’s not in any way a threat at all. I just think that’s reality.”

Since being elected to a seat in the House in 2020, Greene has been known for her eyebrow-raising statements, including alleging that school shootings were “false flag” operations and supporting far-right conspiracies.

She also had her committee assignments revoked after she liked a Facebook comment that supported the assassination of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-California).

McCarthy has said that if Republicans win back the House, he will allow her to regain her committee assignments. He has been embracing his far-right House members as he needs their votes if he wants to become House speaker.

In past interviews, Greene has indicated that she doesn’t think McCarthy will garner enough votes to become the next speaker.
