Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene Launches ‘Anglo-Saxon’ GOP House Caucus

A group of far-right House Republicans is trying to launch a new caucus to promote former President Donald Trump‘s “America First” agenda, which includes an explicit pledge to push “Anglo-Saxon political traditions.”

Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) and Paul Gosar (R-Arizona) developed the nascent “America First” caucus, but many Republican leaders were alarmed at the racist tone of the their message.

Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz (R), who is currently the subject of a federal sex-trafficking probe, also announced Friday that he would be joining Greene’s efforts.

Gaetz made the announcement mere hours after a seven-page draft memo had leaked, which outlined the organization’s ideas.

On Friday afternoon, Gaetz declared that he is “proud” support of the caucus, tweeting, “We will end wars, stop illegal immigration & promote trade that is fair to American workers.”

The memo declares that the group has been formed “to follow in President Trump’s footsteps, and potentially step on some toes and sacrifice sacred cows for the good of the American nation.”

“America is a nation with a border, and a culture, strengthened by a common respect for uniquely Anglo-Saxon political traditions,” the memo reads. “History has shown that societal trust and political unity are threatened when foreign citizens are imported en-masse into a country, particularly without institutional support for assimilation and an expansive welfare state to bail them out should they fail to contribute positively to the country.”

Also included in the group’s manifesto are the unfounded claims of widespread election fraud and support for voting restrictions, as well as an effort to roll back all coronavirus safety measures.

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) told Forbes that he is “looking” at joining the caucus but also said that he “hadn’t seen” the language about immigration, claiming that the group is “not supposed to be about race at all.”
