Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene Fined $48,000 For Refusing To Wear Face Mask On House Floor

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) has been fined $48,000 for repeatedly violating the House mask mandate.

House members are fined $500 for their first mask violation. Greene has violated the rule nearly 20 times.

The fines will likely be deducted from Greene’s congressional salary, which amounts to $174,000 each year.

Greene told the press on Tuesday that she plans to stand “against authoritarian Democratic mandates because I don’t want the American people to stand alone.”

She later posted the following statement to Twitter: “Why do I get fined for not wearing a mask when I’m sitting in a chair on the House floor the same as people eating unmasked at a restaurant?”

After temporarily lifting the mandate in June, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California) decided to reinstate it after the highly transmissible delta variant led to a spike in COVID-19 cases.
