Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene Apologizes For ‘Offensive’ Holocaust Comments

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) has apologized for “offensive” comments she made last month comparing COVID-19 face mask policies to the Holocaust.

Greene issued her apology during a visit to the Holocaust museum on Monday: “This afternoon, I visited the Holocaust Museum. The Holocaust is — there’s nothing comparable to it. But there is no comparison to the Holocaust. And there are words that I have said, remarks that I have made, that I know are offensive, and for that, I want to apologize.”

Earlier this year, Greene was removed from all her committee assignments due to her past endorsement of violence against Democratic lawmakers.

Greene is now facing the threat of censure over her Holocaust comparisons. Rep. Bradley Schneider (D-Illinois) announced last month that he will introduce a resolution to censure her, writing on Twitter: “She dishonored the millions of lives lost in WWII and the Shoah. She has forgotten America’s fight against the Nazi menace.”

In an interview with Real America’s Voice, a right-wing news outlet, Greene stated: “We can look back in a time in history where people were told to wear a gold star, and they were definitely treated like second-class citizens — so much so that they were put in trains and taken to gas chambers in Nazi Germany, and this is exactly the type of abuse that Nancy Pelosi is talking about.”

Days after making these comments, Greene compared badges for vaccinated employees at a supermarket to Jews wearing Star of David badges: “Vaccinated employees get a vaccination logo just like the Nazi’s forced Jewish people to wear a gold star.”

Though Greene has apologized for some of her remarks, she still stands by her statement which compares the Democratic Party and Hitler’s Nazi party. “You know, Nazis were the National Socialist Party,” she said. “Just like the Democrats are now a national socialist party.”

Greene told reporters Monday: “I’ll never stop saying we have to save America and stop socialism.”
