WASHINGTON, DC - JUNE 09: U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), Vice Chairwoman of the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol, delivers opening remarks during a hearing on the January 6th investigation on Capitol Hill on June 9, 2022 in Washington, DC. The bipartisan committee, which has been gathering evidence related to the January 6 attack at the U.S. Capitol for almost a year, will present its findings in a series of televised hearings. Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyoming) mocked Kari Lake for losing Arizona’s gubernatorial election on Monday.
Cheney retweeted a letter Lake wrote to her in October ironically thanking her for her “anti-endorsement.” In the document, Lake said her campaign received more support after Cheney urged Arizonans to not vote for Lake, a Donald Trump-backed candidate.
With the results called on Monday night, Cheney responded to the joke by tweeting, “You’re welcome, @KariLake.”

Cheney, a Republican, is a harsh critic of former president Trump. She is one of the two Republicans serving on the House select committee that is investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot. She lost her primary in August to a Trump-backed challenger.
In October, she sponsored an ad targeting Lake and Mark Finchem, the Republican nominee for Secretary of State, who also lost the election. She highlighted how both of them had refused to commit to accepting the election results in case they lost.
“I don’t know that I’ve ever voted for a Democrat,” Cheney said in the ad. “But if I lived in Arizona, I absolutely would.”
Lake was defeated by Arizona’s Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, a Democrat.
Lake, a former TV news anchor, has repeatedly spread false claims that the 2020 elections was rigged and also sowed doubts about the election process in 2022.
After Hobbs’ wins was projected, Kate refused concede. Instead, she tweeted, “Arizonans know BS when they see it.”
