Rep. Liz Cheney Defeated By Trump Ally Harriet Hageman For Wyoming GOP House Nomination

Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney (R), who is one of her party’s loudest critics of former President Donald Trump, was defeated for the Republican nomination for her House seat on Tuesday night by a wide margin, Harriet Hageman, a Trump ally.

Cheney has used her final months in Congress to advocate for election integrity and the peaceful transfer of power.

“Like many candidates across this country, my opponents in Wyoming have said that the 2020 election was rigged and stolen,” she said while looking directly at the camera in a new video. “No one who understands our nation’s laws, no one with an honest, honorable, genuine commitment to our Constitution, would say that. It is a cancer that threatens our great republic. If we do not condemn these lies, if we do not hold those responsible to account, we will be excusing this conduct and it will become a feature of all elections. America will never be the same.”

Cheney drew Trump’s ire after she voted to impeach him after the Capitol riots. Former Vice President Dick Cheney‘s daughter also became the co-chair of the House select committee that has been investigating the events of January 6, 2021, over the past year.

Dick Cheney appeared in one of Cheney’s recent campaign ads, voicing support for his daughter.

“There is nothing more important she will ever do than lead the effort to make sure Donald Trump is never again near the Oval Office, and she will succeed,” Cheney said in the ad of his daughter’s involvement on the committee.

Cheney is far more well-known and raised nearly $15 million to Hageman’s $4.4 million.

Wyoming is also the state that give Trump his largest margin of victory in 2020.

Some observers say that Cheney could be aiming for the White House in 2024 running in a third party.
