Rep. Jimmy Gomez (D-California) announced Wednesday that he will be introducing a resolution to formally expel Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) from the U.S. House of Representatives.
In Greene’s short tenure as in the House, she has garnered heavy criticism for supporting debunked conspiracy theories like QAnon and for discussing the execution of Democrats on Facebook in 2018 and 2019. A video recently resurfaced of Greene tailing and harassing David Hogg, survivor of the Parkland shooting.
A resolution to remove a member of the House requires a two-thirds majority vote to pass. Considering only ten House Republicans voted in favor of former President Donald Trump’s impeachment, Gomez’s resolution is unlikely to pass.
In a statement Wednesday, Gomez said, “Such advocacy for extremism and sedition not only demands her immediate expulsion from Congress, but it also merits strong and clear condemnation from all of her Republican colleagues, including House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.”

He continued: “Her very presence in office represents a direct threat against the elected officials and staff who serve our government, and it is with their safety in mind, as well as the security of institutions and public servants across our country, that I call on my House colleagues to support my resolution to immediately remove Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene from this legislative body.”
In response to Gomez’s comments, Greene told Politico, “Democrats and their spokesmen in the Fake News Media will stop at nothing to defeat conservative Republicans.” Greene used similar language when responding to a CNN report which connected Greene’s Facebook account to tweets calling on the execution of Democrats.
