Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-California)
Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-California) recommended on Friday that a presidential crimes commission should be formed to investigate President Donald Trump‘s actions, specifically regarding his recent moves to reform the United States Postal Service ahead of the Nov. 3 election.
“I don’t say this lightly: when we escape this Trump hell, America needs a Presidential Crimes Commission,” Swalwell tweeted. “It should be made up of independent prosecutors who look at those who enabled a corrupt president. Example 1: Sabotaging the mail to win an election. #SaveThePostOffice.”
The tweet comes after several aggressive changes within the USPS were announced by the new Postmaster General, mega Trump donor Louis DeJoy. The changes have significantly slowed down service, under the guise of cutting costs.

The Postal Service sent warning letters to 46 states and the District of Columbia that it is unable to guarantee that all ballots cast by mail will arrive in time to be counted. The letter raises the prospect that some voters who adhere to election rules may have their ballot disqualified due to failings by the USPS.
Trump has consistently attacked mail-in voting, painting it as fraud-ridden and unreliable despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic which is expected to dissuade many voters from showing up in person.
