Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Reaffirms Her Support For Biden: ‘The Matter Is Closed’
Rep.Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) reaffirmed her support for President Joe Biden during a conversation with reporters on Monday night. Her support comes after numerous calls for Biden to step aside, allowing for another individual to accept the Democratic party presidential candidate nomination.
Biden’s shaky performance at the presidential debate against former President Donald Trump has left many concerned with his ability to win in November. Seven House Democrats have publicly announced have called on Biden to withdraw.
In her statement, Ocasio-Cortez said that she spoke with Biden. “He made clear then — and he has made clear since — that he is in this race,” she said. “The matter is closed…Joe Biden is our nominee. He is not leaving this race. He is in this race, and I support him.”
Biden has resisted calls for him to step aside, daring others to challenge him during a phone interview on Monday on MSNBC. “I’m getting frustrated by the elites in the party, ‘Oh, they know so much more,’” the president explained. “Any of these guys that don’t think I should run, run against me. Announce for president, challenge me at the convention.”

Both the Congressional Black Caucus and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus have advocated for Biden running for re-election in November.
Ocasio-Cortez explained that to secure Biden’s re-election, his campaign must “commit to the issues that are critically important to working people across this country.” She cited specific ways to carry out this commitment, like continuing to “work on student loans, secure a cease-fire [in Gaza] and bring those dollars back into investing in public policy.”
