Rep. Adam Kinzinger Receives Death Threats Over Jan. 6 Investigation
Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Illinois) shared on Sunday that he and his family have received death threats over his role as one of the two Republicans to serve on the House select committee that is investigating the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack.
“Here is the letter,” the Congressman shared on Twitter. “Addressed to my wife, sent to my home, threatening the life of my family. The Darkness is spreading courtesy of cowardly leaders fearful of the truth. Is that what you want @GOP? Pastors?”
Kinzinger commented on the letter on Sunday during an appearance on ABC’s This Week.
“This threat that came in, it was mailed to my house,” he said. “We got it a couple of days ago, and it threatens to execute me, as well as my wife and 5-month-old child. We’ve never seen or had anything like that. It was sent from the local area.”
“I don’t worry — but now that I have a wife and kids, of course, it’s a little different,” Kinzinger added. “There’s violence in the future, I’m going to tell you. And until we get a grip on telling people the truth, we can’t expect any differently.”
After 11 months of interviewing over a thousand people and going through thousands of documents, the January 6 committee began televised hearings to convey their findings to American citizens earlier this month. The committee made it clear from the beginning that they believe former President Donald Trump was responsible for the events of January 6 in his efforts to overturn the 2020 election results and stay in office. The hearings are expected to run through July.
