Rand Paul Attacked By Neighbor Rene Boucher, Had “Absolutely Nothing” To Do With Politics

Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) was attacked by a neighbor last Friday, and his injuries are worse than initially reported. The man charged as the attacker says the scuffle had “absolutely nothing” to do with politics.

RAND PAUL ATTACKED

The neighbor, Rene Boucher, was charged in the attack. “The unfortunate occurrence of November 3 has absolutely nothing to do with either’s politics or political agendas,” said a statement Boucher’s lawyer Matthew Baker. “It was a very regrettable dispute between two neighbors over a matter that most people would regard as trivial.”

Baker also added that Paul and Boucher worked together in the past, when they were both practicing physicians.

In the attack, the senator sustained five rib fractures, including three displaced fractures, as well as a bruised lung. “We sincerely hope that Senator Paul is doing well and that these two gentlemen can get back to being neighbors as quickly as possible,” Baker said.

Paul has been relatively quiet about the incident, but posted his thanks for the support he’s received on Facebook. “‪Kelley and I appreciate the overwhelming support after Friday’s unfortunate event,” he wrote on the social media site. “Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.”

A spokesperson at Paul’s office said in a statement, “It is a pending, serious criminal matter involving state and federal authorities. We won’t have any further comments at this time.”

A reports states that Boucher is being charged with one count of fourth-degree assault, and is currently out of jail on a $7,500 bond.
