Quayle Advised Pence Not To Reject 2020 Election Results

Former Vice President Dan Quayle advised former Vice President Mike Pence not to try overturning the results of the 2020 presidential election, according to Peril, a forthcoming book by journalists Bob Woodward and Robert Costa.

Pence reportedly asked for advice from Quayle — who was vice president during the George H.W. Bush administration — as the former President Donald Trump pressured him to stretch his power as a Senate president to reject the presidential election results last year.

“Mike, you have no flexibility on this. None. Zero. Forget it. Put it away,” Quayle told Pence, according to the book.

“You don’t know the position I’m in,” Pence replied.

“I do know the position you’re in,” responded Quayle. “I also know what the law is. You listen to the parliamentarian. That’s all you do. You have no power.”

Pence eventually declined the president’s demand to reject the election outcome and approved the vote at the Capitol, which has delayed for hours as the January 6 riot occurred, where mobs of Trump supporters stormed into Capitol that resulted in the deaths of several rioters and police officers.
